Born in Port Elizabeth, Asanda Mali describes a life of hardship and struggles that formed the foundation of the woman she is today. Asanda’s journey towards Mal’stone began out of necessity. As a mechanical engineering student at PE College, she used a manual sewing machine to create outfits because she couldn’t afford to buy clothing. Unfortunately, Asanda wasn’t able to receive her diploma due to a lack of funds, but this misfortunate lead towards the beginnings of a budding entrepreneur. After purchasing an automatic sewing machine, Asanda was able to improve her skills in creating garments. Her break-through happened in 2013, when her designing talent was recognized by bhule from the soil in South Africa, as a trend setter targeting the plus size market. Today Mal’stone is a fashion line that is worn as a statement, comfort and practicality.
